WATER POLO

Water Polo is a very complex sport. It consists with seven people in the water at once. Water Polo was the first Olympic team sport.
Water Polo was invented in England in the mid-nineteenth century. Though historians are not certain, another place where it might have originated in was Athens Greece.
According to the English theory Water Polo was first played in rivers and lakes as an aquatic version of rugby. The objective of the game was to put the small rubber ball in your suit, dive into the water and get as close to the goal as possible then plant the ball for a point. Water Polo became so popular all over the world that it was then added to the Olympics as the first team sport. Most people watched it for the violence. Now the object of the game is to get the ball (which is now a leather soccer ball, comparing) and throw the ball, or shoot, past the goalie.
Details of Water Polo such as tactics are to use the “egg-beater” to tread water. Other tactics is to pick the ball up from the bottom and not on top so if anyone touches you in any way that could be related to violence they automatically get a foul. Also if you do this and not pick the ball up on top other players cant push the ball underwater, which is a turn over, and the other team gets the ball.
The six on five portion of water polo is when a player is overly aggressive or does a foul that is against the rules and gets kicked out (you can get three of these “kick-out fouls” and each of them lasts thirty seconds). Once a six on five is in progress the offensive team has a huge advantage. This is a drawling of a six on five that is covered by a ball side defense that is used often and especially used in Ukiahi wildcats tactics.
The blue X’s are representing the defense playing ball side. The black dots are the offensive team and the purple dot is the Water Polo ball. The orange dots are the goalies. The yellow line is the five meter line where if you are fouled outside of you can shoot. The red line is the 2 meter line and you can’t enter that area if you have the ball, passing, or shooting.
There are multiple ways of shooting in water Polo: 1. regular throwing of the ball. 2. a skip shot, which is when you throw the ball with a twisting motion and the ball bounces of the water and is very useful for tricky shots. 3. a lob shot is not a very common shot but is most useful when the goalie is out of his/her cage and swimming toward you.
The history of Water Polo is not very detailed but is also very famous. Water Polo is a very complicated sport and also very fun and exciting to play or watch.
